I loved the ending. Devdas had to die, not because it is what his mother demanded of him but because it was what was best for him—to shed his skin and become himself once more. If he were still alive, Devdas would have become another person entirely, for self-sacrifice is not an easy thing to do. And this is why I love Devdas the character—he chooses love over wealth and over life itself. He was never concerned about wealth or about power but about love alone.
Devdas is someone who admires the one who is above you. He does not wish to be a part of a system that has been oppressing those below. This is why he chooses love over wealth and sacrifice his entire life for Neetu, his greatest love.
